Clare Balding is a famous journalist and sports presenter associated with the popular television channel BBC. Apart from this Clare Barding gained some degree of fame as an amateur jockey during late 1990’s. In 1990 she was the leading Lady amateur Jockey on the flat horse racing circuit.
Clare Balding was born on January 29th, 1971 in Kingsclere, Hampshire, England. Clare Balding’s family had a legacy of sports running into their blood, her father Ian Balding was an acclaimed race horse trainer who has the credit of training Mill Reef winner of many acclaimed derbies including Epsom Derby. Like father, her brother Andrew Balding is an equally skilled horse trainer who trained the winner of Epsom Oaks in 2003.
Clare Balding started her educational pursuits from Downe House School, an independent girl’s boarding high school near Thatcham in Berkshire. Later, Clare Balding studied English from Newnham College, a woman college in the University of Cambridge, where she became the president of Cambridge Union Society in 1992. Clare Balding got her graduation degree in the year 1993.
Clare Balding debut as a trainee sports presenter in 1994, after she got a break into the world’s most popular radio channel BBC, presenting sport updates during the famous radio show Chris Evans Breakfast Show. In the year 1995 Clare Balding made her debut in television, anchoring the horse race of Royal Ascot. In the year 1997 Clare Balding became BBC horse racing anchor.
Clare Balding has covered four Olympic Games, in Atlanta for BBC radio and in Beijing, Athens and Sydney for BBC television. Later on Clare Balding presented numerous reputed international sports events such as Paralympic Games, Winter Olympics, Commonwealth Games, rugby league, Challenge Cup, Crufts, Lord Mayor’s show, Trooping the Color and many others events. Clare Balding also presented Wimbledon for popular radio channel of UK radio 5 live.
Clare Balding is also a regular columnist for popular newspapers like The Observer, the Evening Standard and The Sporting Life. The Observer is weekly UK based newspaper while Evening Standard is a tabloid local new paper of UK and The Sporting Life has special accounts of horse racing events.
In the year 2003 Clare Balding was honored as ‘Sports Presenter of the Year’ by the Royal Television Society one of the oldest television sonority of the world. Clare Balding in the same year was elected as the winner of the inaugural “Racing Broadcaster of the Year Award” by the horse racing press. The good run continued and Clare Balding got the honor of being the first woman to achieve the “Racing Journalist of the Year Award” her third Award in 2003.
Clare Balding charitable activity was noted when she took part in a celebrity edition of The Apprentice a British reality television series to raise money for underprivileged. Clare Balding’s name once again hit the media headlines when she legalized her relationship with Alice Arnold a fellow newsreader at BBC on 6th September 2006.
