There are times that I can honestly say I’m excited to Advecia reviews on hair loss products. Unfortunately, this isn’t one of them.
The good folks at Advecia claim that one way to check if you’re “at-risk” of going bald is by doing a test that measures your blood to define existing levels of enzymes and androgens. What they fail to tell you is male pattern baldness is defined by three factors for which you don’t need a test; Genes, hormones, and age. They then ignore their
“enzyme-androgen” theory and take a nutritional approach to hair loss and balding people. They even take it a step further by claiming that they are giving you “extra” nutrition not obtained through good dietary practices alone. This is a common approach taken by vitamin pill companies posing as hair loss experts.
What is Advecia?
This contains DHT blocking food supplement for hair loss (official name: “Advecia – Naturally Block DHT”) contains saw palmetto, grape seed, and green tea extracts, as well as the amino acids L-arginine and L-lysine, all of which are known to promote hair development.
However, you should be aware of a potential issue with the amino acids in this product.
What are the ingredients in Advecia?
Saw Palmetto Extract 4:1 (Serenoa repens) (fruit) 37.5 mg, Green Tea Extract (Camellia
sinensis) (leaf) 600 mg, L-Arginine 1500 mg, Phytosterol Complex 125 mg, Beta Sitosterol
50 mg, L-Lysine 600 mg, Grape Seed Extract (Vitis vinifera) (seed) 265 mg, Proanthocyanidins/Procyanidins 250 mg
Saw Palmetto Extract– An extract of the fruit of Serenoa repens. This ingredient contains rich fatty acids and phytosterols. The main promise for this extract is its promising results in treating prostate cancer. Additionally, there have been small clinical trials with minuscule positive results when treating for male pattern baldness.
- Phytosterol extract– One of the active components in Saw palmetto. Some companies claim that the Phytosterols exhibit 5-alpha reductase inhibition. Which is a fancy way of saying that it “may” block testosterone production. Again, very promising in treating prostate cancer.
- Beta-sitosterol – Just one of several Phytosterols. Yet another compound of Saw Palmetto.
- Green Tea Extract – Extracts of green tea contain polyphenols. Advecia claims that polyphenols influence hair loss (they don’t say whether good or bad). The best studied polyphenols are flavonoids. They have been referred to as “nature’s biological response modifiers” because of their uncanny ability to modify the body’s reaction to allergens, viruses, and carcinogens. So you can see that you have to dig pretty deep into Green Tea to find out just what the benefits really are.
- L-Arginine – An amino acid that some claim will benefit people who have damaged their hair with chemical coloring agents.
- L-lysine – You can find lysine in red meats, pork, poultry, cheese, certain fish, nuts, and eggs. I eat every one of these items and can attest that they haven’t helped my hair loss issue. Not to make lite of L-lysine; it’s an essential amino acid to human health – just not human hair.
- Grape seed extract – More polyphenols! Want another antioxidant compound?
- Proanthocyanidins/Procyanidins – How about another?
As you can see, the big let-down on the ingredients is their lack of compounds for hair regrowth. I see a lot of antioxidants, but that’s not helping my fro grow!

Advecia Conclusion
One thing I can say for Advecia’s hair growth claim is they’re misleading. Advecia is just another run-of-the-mill nutritional supplement. If you’re looking to eliminate free radicals, this might be the right product for you. Me, personally, I’m pretty happy taking Centrum A-Zinc!
